Lactose is not the problem.

How many times have we heard people talk about LACTOSE being the problem for babies who have digestive issues?

It’s actually a little word called “casein.” It’s the dairy protein and THAT is the cause of issues for food sensitive babies.

Casein can be found in all kinds of things. Sliced deli meat, granola bars, as a refining agent for wine...you name it. Not all babies are sensitive to really hidden forms of casein, but many are.

It’s a sneaky thing and it’s soooo much more than lactose free milk.

Now, YOU may start to have an issue with lactose, since inevitably you are no longer consuming lactose when you avoid casein. But babies still get a special form of lactose from breast milk all along!

So that means when it’s time to reintroduce, you will need to proceed cautiously yourself to allow your body time to adjust (not always, but often).

So do babies ever have issues with lactose itself? Can a baby be “allergic” to actual breast milk. Yes but RARELY. So rare.

It’s the casein protein you are consuming in all kinds of foods, probiotics, medicines, etc etc that causes havoc.
